Launch of the RomArchive - The Digital Archive of the Roma, Akademie der Künste, Berlin
The RomArchive collection contains items from ten archive sections: Visual Art, Dance, Film, Flamenco, Theatre & Drama, Literature, Music, Romani Civil Rights Movement, Politics of Photography and Voices of the Victims. The launch of the RomArchive website took place with a ceremonious festival programme from 24 to 27 January 2019 at the Akademie der Künste in Berlin and followed by other events in Belgrade, Bucharest and Budapest. Romedia Foundation performed curatorial duties at the RomArchive’s Film Section. On the three days opening festival the film „Pamyatati/Remember" (Ukraine 2016) by Ukrainian director Petro Rusanienko was screened and followed with a discussion with the director of the film and Katalin Barsony, Executive Director of Romedia Foundation.

“Speed Mentoring”, British Embassy, Budapest
On the occasion of the International Women’s Day, young Roma women from the Buvero Program were at the “Speed Mentoring” event organized by the British Embassy in Hungary. The disadvantaged young girls on the event get opportunity to meet inspiring women in leadership positions in different areas of life.

“Living Archive: Performing Memory of Roma Politics”, Central European University, Budapest
RomArchive (www.romarchive.eu) Launching event in Budapest introduced RomArchive’s sections on Film, Politics of Photography, and Visual Arts, with a special focus on the section on Romani Civil Rights Movement. Katalin Barsony presention about the RomaArchive Film Section. Katalin Bársony, the executive director of the Romédia Foundation and the curator responsible for the Film Section of the Archive, gave a presentation on the selection.

Launch of the „dis/ADVANTAGE” photo and video campaign
On the International Day Against Racism, Romedia Foundation launched a combined photo and video campaign that deals with the issue of bullying, especially cyberhate. The campaign is called “dis/ADVANTAGE,” and it offers a glimpse of what this negative experience is like for school-aged Roma children and offers ideas about how we can all overcome this problem on a society-wide level. The campaign was implemented with the support of the Minority Rights Group’s Freedom From Hate: Empowering Civil Society to Counter Cyberhate Against Roma project.

”The evolution of Romani film language and self-representation”, Central European University, Budapest
Critical Approaches to Romani Studies conference organized by the Romani Studies Program at Central European University. Katalin Barsony, Executive Director of Romedia Foundation and Dr. Jekatyerina Dunajeva (Pazmany Peter Catholic University) spoke about ”The evolution of Romani film language and self-representation”.

European Heritage Award / Europa Nostra Award 2019
RomArchive was awarded the prestigious European Heritage Award / Europa Nostra Award for 2019 in the category of research for its contributions to the digitization of the art and culture of Europe's Roma and Sinti! We are more than proud of Romedia Foundation's role in the selection of the Film Section and Katalin Bársony, Executive Director's curatorial work.

DIS/advantage campaign video premiere
The short "dis/ADVANTAGE" campaign video addresses the societywide issue of prejudice against Roma. The intergenerational transmission of negative stereotypes is one of many factors that reflects and propagates bullying of Roma children, both offline and online. We must stand together for a meaningful change.
2nd of August
75th anniversary of the Pharrajimos, Romani Holocaust Memorial Day, Budapest
Roma Holocaust Memorial Day, held every year on 2 August, remembers the murders of hundreds of thousands of Romani and Sinti by the Nazis and their allies during World War II.
Romedia Foundation commemorated the victims in a jointly organized event at the Nehru part Romani Holocaust Monument. Along the lines we promote the narrative that Romedia Foundation’s original research produced over the course of the past 27 years in relation to the sufferings of Romani communities during the World War II.

OPEN Conference - diversity conference for business leaders, Budapest
On the first day of the conference Katalin Barsony, the executive director of Romedia Foundation, participated in the panel discussion Challenging Stereotypes.
Ont he second day Katalin Barsony and Elemer Santa, Managing Director held a workshop on Roma inclusion.

Human Rights Day – Historical remembrance and self-representation, Israeli Cultural Institute
The event, organised for the Human Rights Day, consited of the screening of films from the RomArchive, and roundtable discussions with representatives of Hungarian NGO-s and filmmakers. The topics had been historical remembrance, self-representation and methods for tackling discrimination in society.
