GENERAL VOLUNTEER

DESCRIPTION

General Volunteer

We are continuously on the lookout for individuals who share our commitment to better understanding the situation of Roma worldwide and who are dedicated to amplifying Romani peoples’ voices as reliable sources of knowledge about their own experiences. As a volunteer with us, you will be afforded the opportunity gain insight into the circumstances that affect Romani communities, specifically those within Europe, as well as be exposed to both the complexity and importance of self-representation. Because of the nature of the work that we do, you will gain an in-depth understanding of cross-cultural sensitivity, interethnic dialogue, and transnational programming.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

Volunteers will assist us in the carrying out of various routine activities that are fundamental to our continued operations, which includes but is not limited to:

  • Administrative Support: Upkeeping complex Microsoft Excel worksheets and Google Sheets, sending and receiving email correspondence, as well as scheduling meetings and preparing materials for events.
  • Film Production: Contributing to the various stages of film production, helping to oversee internal tracking documents, as well as general research related to current and future projects.
  • Project Assistance: Preparing reports to be presented to our financial supporters, gathering pertinent data on performance, as well as performing outreach related to upcoming activities and ongoing projects.
  • Social Media: Creating digital media content to be disseminated with our virtual audiences, monitoring our current platforms for significant developments, as well as suggesting and making improvements to the official website.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & DESIRED KNOWLEDGE

It is important that our volunteers are and/or would like to become familiar with the global, regional, national, and/or local issues that affect Roma. It would be an asset if you have related knowledge, from volunteering with other civil society organizations and/or human rights initiatives, for example, but it isn’t required. Given that we value and are eager to support you in the development of your expertise and the honing of your skills, we encourage you to communicate with us about what it is that you are keen to share with us and how you envision us assisting you throughout the process.

Language Proficiency

Proficiency in English and/or Hungarian is a must! If you are familiar with Romanes, it would be a tremendous asset, as would comprehension of any of the other languages spoken in Europe.

Technical Knowledge

Fundamental computer literacy, namely familiarity with the Microsoft Suite and Google Drive, is a must! It would be an advantage if you were able to work in the Adobe Creative Suite and/or have background in web design.

ROMA INTERNSHIP (PART-TIME)

DESCRIPTION

Roma Internship

We offer a 3-month Roma Internship with the support of Open Society Foundations (OSF). As an intern with us, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the creation and dissemination of media content alongside professionals in the industry. Because of the nature of the work that we do, you will gain insight into the complexities of multicultural and transnational outreach, as well as the procedures involved in the translation of materials. We also offer expert knowledge related to the situation of Roma throughout the world, especially within Europe, as we are a Roma NGO.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

Interns will assist in the implementation of programming, which includes a variety of tasks such as writing written communication to partners, maintaining data records, and developing web content. Assignments will include:

  • Drafting projects in the areas of visual art, namely film and photography;
  • Working in various stages of production, eg scripting; and
  • Upkeeping intricate Microsoft Excel worksheets.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & DESIRED KNOWLEDGE

In order to effectively fulfill the role, you must demonstrate a sense of urgency and a commitment to the vision of the Romedia Foundation. Apart from that, we are looking for someone who is able to identify and anticipate problems, analyze complex situations, and recommend creative solutions; is flexible in their schedule to meet the requirements of varying priorities, and proactively seeks opportunities. It is important that you are and / or would like to become familiar with the global, regional, national, and / or local issues related to Roma too. It would be an asset if you have this knowledge from working with civil society organizations and / or human rights initiatives. Also, any background in film history and / or theory would be an advantage.lease note that you do not have to be a student to apply!

Citizenship Status

We are looking to hire nationals of the European Union’s member countries.

Language Proficiency

ASSOCIATE PROGRAM COORDINATOR (PART-TIME)

DESCRIPTION

Associate Program Coordinator

We seek an individual to develop, coordinate, implement and report programming. The Associate Program Coordinator will be responsible for scheduling and facilitating various initiatives throughout the calendar year that align with Romedia’s values ​​and pursue its goals. This position requires the ability to manage projects simultaneously, critically evaluate existing programming, and creatively offer solutions to issues that arise.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

We expect that the Associate Program Coordinator will be accountable for tasks that include:

  • Assisting in the management of the citizen journalism project, eg drafting grant applications and writing interim reports;
  • Carrying Out Romedia’s organization-wide fundraising strategy with diligence;
  • Building and maintaining relations with various stakeholders, including establishing links with foreign representatives in Hungary and strengthening partnerships with other Roma NGOs; and
  • Supporting the development of and adherence to various budgets.

It is important that you are able to listen, read, speak and write at a native or bilingual proficiency in Hungarian and that you can work in these capacities at a professional level in English. Romanes is an asset! If you speak another language, especially one within the European Union, that would be an advantage.
